At GES, our Learning Compact and Plan includes goals for student achievement. This section of the Paw Prints will be used to share information parents can use to support their children in achieving the goals. We hope that this information is helpful to you!
Using books to reinforce math concepts
Two of the at-home goals on the GES school compact are to practice counting and practice math facts with your children. A fun way to practice math skills is to read picture books that include math. The following is a list of books that are available in the Howard County Public Library system:
- Triangles by Yusuke Yonezo
- I see Triangles by D.H. Dilkes
- Triangle by Mac Barnett
- Spaghetti and Meatballs for All by Marilyn Burns (The Howard County library has a Chinese version of this, too.)
- Infinity and Me by Kate Hosford
- Billions of Bricks by Kurt Cyrus
- Pigs Go to Market by Amy Axelrod
- Seeing Symmetry by Loreen Leedy
- Zero the Hero by Joan Holub
- A Remainder of One by Elinor Pinczes
- Each Orange Had 8 Slices by Paul Giganti
- The Grapes of Math (math riddles) by Greg Tang
- Sir Cumference and the First Round Table by Cindy Neuschwander (This author has written many picture books about math, and they are available at the Howard County Public Library.)
