We are so excited to have some warmer weather and to see the sun out each day. Remember that this time of year, the temperatures are often cold in the morning, meaning the kids need jackets and warmer in the afternoon. Please encourage your child to wear layers and don’t forget to label their sweatshirts and jackets in case they leave them somewhere, which happens a lot.
Congratulations to our GES Green Team! We learned on Monday that Guilford was recertified as a Maryland Green School. Special thanks goes to Debbie Robbins for her leadership throughout the process. As we celebrated Earth Day this week, the first graders had a special guest, Michael Recycle made his yearly visit to talk with the students about how they can be leaders in protecting the environment. They had great ideas about what they can do, parents be ready for their ideas.
Join us on Friday at 9:30 for our quarterly Coffee With Administration in the cafeteria. As always this is a great opportunity to hear from the administrators and to ask questions. This Friday, Ms. Kasda, our Reading Support Teacher, will be sharing helpful tips on how to build your child's writing engagement with tips for writing at home. We hope you will join us.
Tonight, Wednesday, April 25th, is our Science Fair, join us from 6:30 to 7:30 to see 100 student created science fair projects. We are so excited to showcase our amazing scientist. Feel free to drop in and talk to a scientist about their projects, all projects are located in the cafeteria.
April 26th is designated as “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.” This is always an enjoyable day for those students who attend work with their parents. If you want to take your child to your work, please notify us in writing so we can mark it as an excused absence upon their return on Friday.
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders worked very hard this week on the ELA PARCC assessment. Next week, they will complete the Math PARCC assessment on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you for supporting your child each day during our assessment window.
Last day of school has been changed. On Tuesday, the state Board of Education denied HCPSS request to waive the two snow days we need to make up. As a result, the last day of school will be Tuesday, June 19th. On June 15th, 18th, and 19th all schools will close three-hour early. We are in the process of making adjustments to our end of the year events and will let you know ASAP if any have changed. Thank you for your flexibility.
