Dear Families,
    We are pleased to invite all students at Guilford to participate in our reading incentive, March Reading Madness.  This program will run for four weeks, beginning in March and ending before Spring Break.  Research shows that the amount of time students spend in independent reading is the best predictor of reading achievement.  While students are already required to be engaged in nightly reading activities, we want to recognize the students who have increased their reading time.  Reading activities can include independent reading, being read to, and/or reading aloud.

    All students will receive a reading log to be completed for the first two weeks and a second log for the final two weeks.  Students will record the number of minutes they read each night on the log.  The goal is for students to read 20 minutes each night for students in grades 1-5 and 15 minutes a night for students in kindergarten!  Completed and signed logs must be turned in on March 24th and then again on April 7th.

April 7th

•    Round 2 Reading
•    Logs Due on 4/7/17
•    School Spirit Day: Wear Basketball Attire on 4/7/17

    All students who participate will earn exciting prizes for their reading.  Prizes will be awarded at individual, class, and grade levels.  Our school-wide goal is to reach 160,000 minutes of reading.  If we are able to reach this goal, we will have a special basketball game.  Please help us make this a fun and rewarding experience for your child.  By working together, we can ensure success for every child.
