We’ve had a busy two weeks with many students representing Guilford at a variety of competitions outside the school.  We appreciate all the hard work, studying, and preparation that our students have done to show true Excellence in Action!   
 
Congratulations to Angelina Taylor, for her tremendous effort during the HC Library’s spelling bee.  She made it to the sixth round of the competition.  Special thank you goes to Nicholas Cosgrove for participating as our alternate.  We know both students studied hard and are proud of their efforts in representing Guilford.
 
Thirty-five 4th and 5th grade students participated in the annual MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) competition held at JHU Applied Physics Lab.  These students spent the past 16 weeks preparing for the competition.  Students participated in four competitions; Scratch Computer Coding, Effective Communication, Storybook Adventures, and Bridge Building.  Students coded to complete a maze, spoke on how to reduce pollution, built a working amusement park ride based on a children’s book, and constructed a bridge that held over 6000 grams.  Guilford brought home two third place trophies.  Congratulations to all of our MESA students.

Today, I had the pleasure of attending the Maryland Reading Conference with 10 teachers from Guilford.  This conference is held in Hunt Valley each year and we were fortunate to hear presentations from many nationally known reading experts.  What a wonderful day of learning for our staff.
