Note from Mr. Davis We are so proud of our Fifth Graders! They have spent the past month preparing for the Simulated Congressional Hearings (SCH) today. During the SCH, students present “expert” testimony and answer questions about government and why and how they feel about how the constitution was written. It’s impressive to see they share their ideas, connect their thinking to historical information as well as apply it to current events. Well done Fifth Grade! Congratulations to Miye’a Ayler for being named the 2018.2019 MESA Student of the Year for her work as part of the MESA team. Way to go Miye’a! On Friday, our staff began making preliminary class groupings for the 2019.2020 school year. These homeroom classes are created with a focus on reading groups, with each homeroom construction of at least three reading groups. It is always an amazing process as our staff discusses each of their students as we work to place them in the most appropriate academic as well as social placement. In addition to this process, parents are able to share their thoughts for student placement by completing the attached Consideration Card. If you decide to complete a consideration card, please return it by June 14 to the front office. Feel free to email it to me at jonathan_davis@hcpss.org. Many parents have asked about staffing changes for the upcoming school year. With the budget not yet finalized, here is the information we know for sure. Guilford will be losing 0.5 Title I Teachers, 1.0 Reading Recovery Teacher (this position was cut in all HCPSS schools), and a 1.0 Classroom Teacher. Once the budget is finalized, we will know exactly who is leaving Guilford. As I have done in the past, I will let you know about these changes. We do know that three of our amazing staff members are retiring. Congratulations to...Pennie Close, Principal’s Secretary, Ester Drake, 2nd grade Para-educator, and Jackie Cousins, Vocal Music Teacher. They will be missed! Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! Remember there is not school on Monday, May 28th. Jonathan Davis Principal
