Note from Mr. DavisWhat an exciting last week! Guilford has so much to celebrate! Congratulations! Sylvia Hennessie, kindergarten teacher was selected as one of two Howard County Teachers of the Year! What a honor for Sylvia, we are so excited to be able to highlight all the hard work and dedication she has to not only her students but to the entire Guilford community. Way to Go! Connie Stahler, former Assistant Principal at Guilford, was named Maryland Assistant Principal of the Year by the MAESP (Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals). As you know Connie gave so much of herself for eight years at Guilford and is doing the same at Laurel Wood Elementary. Catherine McNamara, Stephanie Stetz, and Charlene McDaniel who were nominated for the Gifted and Talented Educator Recognition Award for their work in empowering and challenging our students. They will be honored on April 2nd at River Hill High School. Congratulations! Thank you to everyone who participated in the PTA sponsored Raise Craze! We raised over $4000 and I was forced to dress as a penguin all day last Wednesday. Not only did we raise a lot of money, our students participated in thousands of Acts of KINDNESS! It was so great to see so many intentional acts of kindness from our students! Even though the fundraiser is complete, let’s remember to be kind each day. Jonathan Davis Principal

This past November we did the WE Walk For Water Campaign to ensure good weather for the event. We walked and had a relay race and read a book about the water walk in Africa .This book told of the hardship women and girls endured to gain access to clean water in their country. Our students expressed how thankful they were to have clean water in our country and they shared some stories of their families in other countries. This is our 2nd year with WE. Last year WE showcased our school at WE Day Baltimore. This year WE is having a fundraiser event for clean water to their villages they support around the world. Early Interactions Build Brains! We hope you will spread the word! Student Survey Recent state law requires that all public schools in Maryland survey students about school climate. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so that schools can promote a climate that supports student learning. Students will take the survey during regular school hours between March 4th – April 26th. The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate his or her privacy. The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district. We are eager to receive this very important information about your student’s school and about schools across the state. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Trish Lannon. Thank you. Registration for the G/T Registration for the G/T Summer Institutes is underway. You can find the catalog on the HCPSS website at https://www.hcpss.org/f/summer/gt-summer-institutes-talent-dev-catalog.pdf (Links to an external site.)
