Note from Mr. Davis

Is that the sun we see?  It’s so exciting to see the sun out each day this week!  It’s still chilly out so don’t forget to send your child(ren) to school wearing layers and with a jacket.  Our goal continues to be to get outside as many days as possible.

Tomorrow, we are excited to welcome Howard County Executive, Dr. Calvin Ball and HCPSS Superintendent Dr. Martirano to Guilford.  We are always eager to welcome visitors and show off the hard work of our students and staff each day.  Dr. Ball is visiting to congratulate, HCPSS Teacher of the Year Sylvia Hennessie on her award.

Don’t forgot to continue to vote for our March Madness Reading Challenge.  Round 1 of voting ended today and we are eager to hear who made it to the second round.  Look for more information as well as the voting window for Round 2.  Thank you to all students who read books and are deciding to vote for their favorite Black Eyed Susan books.

As always thank you for supporting Guilford.  Have a wonderful week!

Bridges News

Dear Parents;

Your students have been participating in WE Schools for our Bridges program. This past November we did the WE Walk For Water Campaign to ensure good weather for the event. We walked and had a relay race and read a book about the water walk in Africa .This book told of the hardship women and girls endured to gain access to clean water in their country. Our students expressed how thankful they were to have clean water in our country and they shared some stories of their families in other countries. This is our 2nd year with WE. Last year WE showcased our school at WE Day Baltimore. This year WE is having a fundraiser event for clean water to their villages they support around the world. If you would like to donate for clean water please go to this link

Future Guilford Tigers

Calling all FUTURE Guilford Tigers! (birth through 5)

Do you have a future Guilford Tiger in your family?

Do you know of someone who does?

If so, we’d like to be able to send you resources and communicate with you about upcoming events that may be of interest to you and your family. Please fill out thisGoogle form so we can learn more about your child, and can identify what could best address your needs.

We’d also like to introduce you to Talk With Me – Howard County, a new initiative in partnership with HCPSS. Talk With Me works to support parents and caregivers in gaining a greater understanding of the powerful brain-building that occurs through early interactions with babies and toddlers.

More information about  Talk With Me – Howard County can be found at their website:https://www.hcpss.org/launch-into-learning/talk-with-me/ or by contacting Mrs. Hennessie at Sylvia_Hennessie@hcpss.org.

Early Interactions Build Brains! We hope you will spread the word!

Student Survey

Recent state law requires that all public schools in Maryland survey students about school climate. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so that schools can promote a climate that supports student learning.

Students will take the survey during regular school hours between March 4th – April 26th. The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate his or her privacy.

The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district.

We are eager to receive this very important information about your student’s school and about schools across the state.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Trish Lannon. Thank you.
