Note from Mr. Davis We are truly encountering some unique weather these past two weeks. Thank you to all the families who are diligent in monitoring the weather, your emails, and text messages for delays and/or cancellations. I know these ongoing changes to the schedule can be frustrating and know our staff works hard to keep the days normal once your children arrive at school. I wish I could say we are done with this craziness, but I’m sure we will have some more weather to deal with over the next few weeks. Thank you to the PTA for bringing a wonderful Empathy assembly to Guilford last week. The students enjoyed the skits and clearly understood the importance of having empathy for others. Thank you PTA! If you have not signed up for conferences, please do so ASAP. The county gives us this time and we want everyone to take advantage of this opportunity. Please call the front office if you have any questions. Thank you! Jonathan Davis Principal
Dates To Remember for 2019 February 2019 2/14 - Spirit Day- Red/Pink Day 2/25 - PTA Restaurant Night CheeBurger CheeBurger from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. March 2019 3/1 - Spirit Day - Dr. Seuss Day From the Title I Team At GES, our Learning Compact and Plan includes goals for student achievement. This section of the Paw Prints will be used to share information parents can use to support their children in achieving the goals. We hope that this information is helpful to you! GES Goal: Attend Parent Teacher Conferences to help monitor your child’s progress Did you know that parental involvement is a strong predictor of academic success? Conferences are an opportunity to learn about your child – to celebrate successes, and to learn ways you can help with weaknesses. Here are questions you might want to ask during a parent teacher conference to get a better understanding of how your child is doing in school and how you can support him or her. What do you see as my child’s strengths and weaknesses? Your child's teacher sees him from a different perspective than you do. Ask the teacher about his strengths so you can encourage him to continue doing good work. Ask, as well, about the personal weaknesses your child needs to work on, and listen to the response with an open mind. Is my child performing on grade level? The most important thing here is to know if your child’s performance is where it should be, and your child’s teacher will be able to talk about that. How is my child doing socially? A child’s social development is just as important as his academic development, and your child’s teacher will have made useful observations she can share with you. Do you have any concerns about my child? Sometimes we are so busy getting through the list of assessments, reading levels, and academic achievement that we can miss the bigger picture. Giving teachers and parents the chance to consider any areas of concern emotionally, socially, or developmentally addresses the whole child in his or her learning environment. Conferences are your time to share information with the teacher, too. For instance, it’s a good time to talk to the teacher about any changes that may have occurred in your family or home. At Guilford, we appreciate your attendance at conferences and being our partners in your child’s education. Thank you!
