Note from Mr. Davis It’s hard to believe that it’s already the middle of April and that schools will be closed for Spring Break starting Monday, April 15th with schools reopening on Tuesday, April 23rd. We hope everyone finds time to relax and enjoy a slower pace. I know I’m excited to spend some additional time with my family. Congratulations to our students who participated in the MESA and the Battle of the Books competition last week. It always great to see our students showcasing their efforts. At the MESA competition, our students earned the following awards: 1st place: Storybook Theme Park Ride, 2nd place: Scratch Programing, 2nd place: Wood Bridges, and 3rd place: Wearable Technology. On Friday at the Battle of the Books, we had two fifth grade teams completing. Congratulations on your efforts and for representing Guilford and winning the Civility Award! Lately, we have been having issues with students bringing and using cell phones in school and on school sponsored field trips. Just a reminder that cell phones are not to be used on the school bus, during the school day, or on any school sponsored field trips. We are asking that as students enter the building their cell phone should be turned off and put in their backpacks. They should remain in their backpacks throughout the day until they exit the building. Cell phones should also remain in backpacks while students are on the bus. Thank you for reminding your child about these expectations. Have a wonderful week! Jonathan Davis Principal

Bridges News Dear Parents Your students have been participating in WE Schools for our Bridges program. This past November we did the WE Walk For Water Campaign to ensure good weather for the event. We walked and had a relay race and read a book about the water walk in Africa .This book told of the hardship women and girls endured to gain access to clean water in their country. Our students expressed how thankful they were to have clean water in our country and they shared some stories of their families in other countries. This is our 2nd year with WE. Last year WE showcased our school at WE Day Baltimore. This year WE is having a fundraiser event for clean water to their villages they support around the world. If you would like to donate for clean water please go to this link Type in the team name: Deborah Robbins - GES Bridges Click here to view Flyer: WWFW_Parent_Resource.pdf Thank you for your support, Future Guilford Tigers Calling all FUTURE Guilford Tigers! If so, we’d like to be able to send you resources and communicate with you about upcoming events that may be of interest to you and your family. Please fill out thisGoogle form so we can learn more about your child, and can identify what could best address your needs. We’d also like to introduce you to Talk With Me – Howard County, a new initiative in partnership with HCPSS. Talk With Me works to support parents and caregivers in gaining a greater understanding of the powerful brain-building that occurs through early interactions with babies and toddlers. More information about Talk With Me – Howard County can be found at their website:https://www.hcpss.org/launch-into-learning/talk-with-me/ or by contacting Mrs. Hennessie at Sylvia_Hennessie@hcpss.org. Early Interactions Build Brains! We hope you will spread the word! Student Survey Recent state law requires that all public schools in Maryland survey students about school climate. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so that schools can promote a climate that supports student learning. Students will take the survey during regular school hours between March 4th – April 26th. The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate his or her privacy. The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district. We are eager to receive this very important information about your student’s school and about schools across the state. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Trish Lannon. Thank you. Registration for the G/T Registration for the G/T Summer Institutes is underway. You can find the catalog on the HCPSS website at https://www.hcpss.org/f/summer/gt-summer-institutes-talent-dev-catalog.pdf (Links to an external site.) Scholarships are available for students participating in the Free and Reduced Meals program. Please feel free to contact Ms. McNamara or Ms. Stetz if you have any questions at all.
