Note from Mr. Davis - 05/23/18

Wed, 05/23/2018 - 4:09pm

Congratulations to our Fifth Graders!  Today they successfully completed their Simulated Congressional Hearings (SCH).  It was exciting to hear them share their speeches, to easily answer follow-up questions, and to incorporate current events into what they have learned.  Our judges were extremely impressed, saying that Guilford students were the most prepared students they have seen.  Congratulations Fifth Graders!

Howard County Executive, Allan Kittleman got us started with an inspiring speech in which he challenged our students to be responsible citizens.  You will be the ones leading our county, our country in the future.  You will make a difference!  Superintendent, Dr. Martirano wrapped up our SCH by thanking our students for their hard work and sharing about his role as superintendent.  He challenged us to bring Kindness, Caring, and Compassion to each interaction.  It was quite a day!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Evening of Excellence last Thursday. It was a huge success, in the classroom students shared examples of their hard work throughout the year.  Students who participated in our Curriculum Extension Units and Seminars highlighted their efforts in the gym and media center.  Our band students performed before ending the night with an African drum circle.  Another great opportunity to be celebrates our students!

If you have not completed a Consideration Card for next year, I would encourage you to do so by June 15.  We began the articulation process last Friday and this information will be helpful as we move forward.  Thank you!

Please look closely at the dates below, it’s a busy time of the year.  As always thank you for your support!
